    • Java Edition - PC or Mac

      • Running Minecraft Version 1.21 Java Edition on any capable PC or Mac.

    • Bedrock Edition - Device of Choice

      • Latest Minecraft Bedrock edition running on whatever device you like.

      • Join with the addresses above.

      • Have fun!

  • Yes! Anything that runs Minecraft Bedrock Edition can join BadCow, thanks to the Geyser and Floodgate mods that we run. Simply submit your Bedrock username the same as a Java player would in our registration form below, and join with the web address and port above.

Additional resources can be found here.

  • Nope! You can merely join with the address above and you'll be automatically added to the whitelist by default. Please note that the admins and mods have the right to restrict or ban your account for bad behavior or violations to our terms, which are displayed in the server when you login.

  • We have a few quality-of-life settings that make BadCow a little less stressful. The big one is having “keep inventory” turned on. If you die on the server, you don’t lose your items. Wait I think that’s it.

  • Nope! BadCow is a Paper server, which is similar to Bukkit. What does that mean? All of our mods run server-side, meaning they only affect behavior in the game database. No mods are required on the client-side (i.e. your Java launcher). This means we don’t have anything fancy like dinosaurs or special blocks. Everything you interact with in the game is good ol’ Vanilla Minecraft.

    • CoreProtect

      • A long-standing mod in the arsenal of BadCow. This is our deterrence against griefing and the tool of choice for our on-server Private Investigators. CoreProtect logs every single action on a block without a performance hit, allowing server mods and admins the ability to track who did what and when, and even rollback changes when necessary. We can also track who took items from chests. So if you steal, we will find you.

    • Dynamic Map

      • This is our live map mod, which generates and updates as we play, and is accessible here. See who’s online and approximately where they are! Players can subvert this tracking with invisibility potions.

    • Geyser (New for BadCow VII!)

      • This allows players of Bedrock edition to play on our server.

    • Floodgate (New for BadCow VII!)

      • This is a mod that aids Geyer, allowing Bedrock players to play on our server even if they don’t have a Java account. Pretty neat, huh?

    • KeepChunks

      • This allows us to specify certain chunks stay loaded even without having players online and in the area. Want your slime farm to churn overnight? Have a ton of bricks you need to smelt while you go to class? Just hit up a mod and we can keep those chunks running while you’re gone!

    • LuckPerms

      • This is our permissions manager. The main benefit players will notice is that we won’t have to restart to the server to adjust permissions on user groups. Handy for admins. Seamless for players!

    • Sleep-Most

      • We love this mod. When there are multiple players online, only a majority of them must sleep to trigger the day/night cycle, rather than all. Democracy!

    • ViaVersion (New for BadCow VII!)

      • This is sort of a fuzzy version requirement. If you’re running a slightly newer dot-update, you should still be able to join BadCow. We won’t have to fuss over updating the server as much, prolonging the life of the server and mods. At least we hope. This is new for BadCow VII so we’ll see how it goes!

    • Jobs

      • BadCow allows players to join a job on the server, which pays them regular income (in-game money only) for doing related tasks. Jobs include things like Miner, Builder, Explorer, Hunter, etc. Said money can then be used at shops that players setup, or an Admin Shop (coming soon) wherein they can spawn items in from the server at a set price.

    • EssentialsX

      • This is a vast mod that acts as a bridge between other mods.

        • It grants us the ability to add custom commands which players can use, such as /spec and /surv to switch between Spectator and Survival mode, respectively.

        • Provides a shop mod for users to sell items to each other.

        • Sets up an economic system to track player bank balances.

    • Vault

      • This is a mod that bridges things like our economy, shops, and jobs.

    • WorldEdit

      • For when we need the ultimate God Mode: admins have the ability to make vast changes to the world when we really need it. We can also copy and paste entire sections/buildings/whatever, in extreme cases. You might see old builds from old BadCow servers pop up thanks to this mod’s import/export abilities. Players of our last two servers will remember being able to tour BadCow V’s main city in the middle of Antarctica within BadCow VI.

  • Many eons ago, when the earth was young, a group of friends started a Minecraft server known as FoxCraft. One day, two brothers, (Jeffrey and Nathaniel Caauwe (Cow-ee)), who happened to be two of the most active players on FoxCraft, decided to troll the admin of the server, placing a TNT trap within said admin's underground bunker.

Upon logging in, the admin tripped the boobytrap, and his base was destroyed. He was not amused, however, and banned the brothers. So the two Cows decided to create their own server, with blackjack and hookers, where they could be as Bad as they wished.

Most of the gang from FoxCraft migrated over to BadCow, including the old admin. And thus the Cows became the new admins of all future adventures.

Over the years, BadCow has been refreshed, trying out different seeds, designed worlds, and as of BadCow VI, a map based on Earth, which saw the most expansive pool of players and builds on BadCow to date.

In August 2024, BadCow VII was launched, with a fresh start in a 1.21 procedural generated map. Who knows what insanity will abound in this latest iteration... Join us today!

  • To the best of our ability, we aim for BadCow to be kid friendly, within reason. Late-night play sessions, for instance, might see a little more colorful language in the chat. We welcome parents of any children playing on BadCow to reach out to us if there are any concerns. We definitely encourage all players to report inappropriate behavior to the admins (JCow95 and NateCow in-game). BadCow is a place for creativity, fun, and learning.

  • We’re working on a page that’ll lay out instructions for players! We’ll link that here as soon as that’s ready. Thank you for your patience. [Updated August 10, 2024]
